Lou Piniella slated as next manager of the Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are hoping that Lou Piniella will do for them what he did for the 1990 Cincinnati Reds, win a World Series. According to reports, Piniella will bring his intense managerial style to the Windy City in hopes of capturing that elusive World Series, something not done since 1908.

While the Cubs have suffered numerous injuries to key players over the past few years nobody seems willing to allow that excuse to account for their 66-96 record this past season. With Dusty Baker’s contract complete, Chicago turns to Lou Piniella to right the ship.

It is believed Piniella will sign a three-year deal that will pay him $3 million a season.

Piniella will be returning to the dugout for the first time since his tenure as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays skipper. After three years with the Rays, Piniella moved to the announcer’s booth. His success with the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds is something Chicago fans hope he can replicate for the Wrigley faithful.

A formal announcement is expected tomorrow.
