With all the celebrities and hype about liposuction and cosmetic surgery in the United States, one could conclude that Americans spend more on cosmetic surgery than any other country. But a new study shows that is simply not the case.
A study conducted by Australia’s leading cosmetic surgery resource, Costhetics, found that Australians spend 40 percent more per capita on cosmetic surgery than Americans. For every thousand people, Americans spend $33,000 USD on liposuction and other cosmetic procedures, while Australians spend $45,500 AUD on procedures.
When asked why the Australians spend more, co-founder of Costhetics, Loiusa McKay said the economics and the harsh Australian sun could be contributing factors.
McKay believes that Australians may have more disposable income than Americans, even though their stock market doesn’t reflect this.
The harsh Australian sun also ages people faster, so the cosmetic surgery industry benefits from people looking to turn back the effects of the sun. McKay also stated that Australians may be more vain.
Much like in America, the top cosmetic surgeries for Australian women include breast augmentation, breast reduction, liposuction and tummy tucks. For the men the top procedures are breast reductions, getting rid of man boobs, liposuction, rhinoplasty and eye lid surgery.
Anyone, in Australia and America are advised to do some research and find a qualified plastic surgeon in their area and make certain they are making an informed decision before the undergo the knife.
