Savannah, GA- Many cities set up DUI checkpoints over the weekend or during the holidays, but Savannah drivers got a surprise Wednesday night when police set up checkpoints in the middle of the week.
The Savannah Police Department along with the State Highway patrol set up the checkpoint at East Broad Street where they cited one person for suspicion of DUI, but the driver tested under the legal limit. If a person tests of over the legal limit they face formal charges, which require the representation of a Savannah DUI attorney.
Other people had their vehicles searched by K-9 units. In one incident, an empty bag of marijuana was found, police then discovered that the driver swallowed the contents of the bag, according to the WSAV TV.
In another incident, one driver led police on a high speed chase, topping off at 100 mph. Police were able to end the chase by causing the driver to spin out. The suspect was apprehended after he tried to flee on foot.
In total, local police issued 52 citations and made 15 DUI arrests. All of these individuals will need to find a highly-skilled Savannah DUI lawyer to help them with these charges.
With St. Patrick’s Day approaching it is likely that Savannah Police will ramp up their efforts to catch intoxicated drivers.
When a person enlists a Savannah DUI attorney they may be able to have charges reduced and minimize the impact of the resulting penalties.
