Philadelphia, PA- A Chadds Ford man is facing DUI and federal charges after he crashed through a security fence at the Philadelphia airport on Thursday.
Police said that Kenneth Mazik, 24, was intoxicated when he rammed his Jeep through security gates at the airport and proceeded to drive down the runway at 100 mph as a plane was arriving.
Ground radar detected Mazik almost immediately as he traveled down one runway. He switched over to a parallel runway, police began pursuing the suspect but Mazik led them on a five minute chase.
Airplanes were forced to circle the airport for 15 minutes while police apprehended Mazik. Police determined that this was not a terrorist attack and are still trying to determine why Mazik drove onto the runway.
Federal authorities will charge Mazik with disrupting services at the airport and endangering safety. In addition to federal charges he will be charged with DUI and reckless endangerment.
A DUI alone has serious ramifications, which may be minimized with the representation of a DUI attorney.
Alcohol lowers a person’s inhibitions. Intoxicated people may decide to get behind the wheel and put their lives and the lives of others in danger. As a result, the law treats DUI offenders harshly. This is an offense that should be taken seriously by hiring a DUI lawyer.
With the representation of an experienced DUI attorney, the accused may be able to stay out of jail and retain their license to drive.
