High School Seminar Reaches the Next Generation of Technology Leaders

Kids nowadays seem to know more about social media and technology than adults. Words such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are willy-nilly phrases to adults who aren’t technically advanced. This generation gap with technology is exactly why Seattle-based SEO company Zooming to the Top is targeting their latest hiring spree to local high school students.

“Children are the future of the technology world”, said Zooming to the Top’s CEO James Fillmore. “They know the ins and outs of technology better than some of the leading experts in the field. It’s why we want to get them thinking about entering a career in technology or SEO early on.”

Zooming to the Top hosts a local three day seminar for high school students. The focus of the seminar is to teach them about the numerous career opportunities that are available to them. Sessions on how to use keywords, how to boost a website’s ranking, what a good website includes, and how to find clients are all focused upon during this three day seminar.

“We ask high school teachers and counselors for recommendations on who should attend”, said Fillmore. “We really want people who are serious about a possible career in technology and SEO, not someone who is using this as a free pass to get out of class.”

This is Zooming to the Top’s second year holding the seminar for high school students. So far, 75 students have already signed up for the seminar with another 50 applications still pending. Last year, 75 students attended the seminar.

“High school students are often lost when it comes to career opportunities”, said Hilton High’s guidance counselor, Tina Vidmar. “This seminar shows them a career choice that is relatively new, and allows them to branch out a little when it comes to possible career choices they may have.”

This year, Zooming to the Top has teamed up with local graphic design agencies to provide conferences on how to design and build a website that clients want and need. It is believed that as the program continues to grow, more local businesses and industry leaders will express interest in attending the seminar as a guest speaker.

“I spend most of my day on Facebook”, said high school senior, Ted Miller. “Who knew that I could actually make a living using social media, and helping other businesses make their mark on social media. I told all my friends they shoulda signed up for this awesome class too!”
