Military Hearings at Guantanamo Bay Set to Resume

Six months after U.S. President Barack Obama signed an order to halt the controversial military hearings at Guantanamo Bay the naval base is now set to resume what is being called “administrative hearings.’

Obama has said he is comfortable with moving forward now that a number of safeguards have been put in place to ensure the rights of those on trial were respected. The President has said he plans to shut down Guantanamo by January but he has been facing a number of roadblocks in reaching that goal as few countries want to house the remaining detainees.

Among those detainees are the five men accused of plotting the Sept. 11 attacks. Those men are scheduled to appear in court later this week. Military lawyers have stated an addition 61 detainees are ready for trial and the prosecution will proceed when Obama issues the order.
