LA Postal worker dies after legs severed by sleepy driver

A postal worker died last week after his legs were severed by a driver who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.

The incident occurred last Tuesday around noon, when a postman was delivering mail on Prado Street. The postal worker was standing behind his truck when he was struck by a passenger van. He was pinned between the van and his truck. Both of his legs were severed and he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The worker died in the hospital on Wednesday.

The driver of the van, whose identity has not been released, stayed was on the scene when police arrived. LAPD is not certain the exact cause of the accident, but believes the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. He was driving on a suspended license.

The driver may face felony charges for the accident.
