Saudi Diplomat In Bangladesh Killed By Gunman

A Saudi diplomat died Tuesday evening after being shot outside his apartment in the Gulshan neighborhood of Dhaka, Bangladesh. According to a police official, Khalaf bin Mohammed Salem al-Ali was discovered around 1 a.m. Tuesday about 30 yards from his home with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. He died at a nearby hospital around 5 p.m.

Witnesses told police the shot was fired by a gunman inside a car. Police say the motive for the killing is unknown. Ali was head of citizens’ affairs at the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka.

"What has happened is very unfortunate and unexpected in this country. We have also ordered police to conduct a fair investigation so we can take proper actions against the culprits,” Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said in a statement.

The Saudi Embassy has not commented.
