Local Musician Dies in Two Car Accident in Maryland

Anne Arundel County, MD- Police said that man who died in a two-car collision on Tuesday was local Jazz bassist Gene “Joe” Byrd, 78. Byrd once played at the White House for President’s Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.

According to Anne Arundel County police, Byrd was turning left in Volva off of Lee Airpark Drive when a Yukon SUV ran into to the driver’s side door. Byrd became trapped in the Volvo.

Police said the Yukon driver ran a red light on Solomons Island Road.

When emergency crews arrived they had to extricate Byrd from his car and he suffered a cardiac arrest during the process. Police also said that Byrd sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

The Yukon driver was not injured. Neither alcohol nor excessive speed contributed to the accident, according to police.

It takes only one error on a driver’s part to cause serious injuries or death to another. These victims or their loved ones will have to face costly medical bills and funeral expenses, but an accident attorney will fight to make sure they are justly compensated.

Injury victims are encouraged to contact an accident lawyer immediately to begin gathering information about a case. The skills and experience of an accident attorney will be instrumental in obtaining a maximum settlement for the victims of a negligent driver.
