What do we mean by addiction treatment provider?

Addiction treatment provider is another name for addiction rehabilitation or rehab center. It is a place where addicted individuals can receive professional help for substance abuse and addiction while healing, living a healthier lifestyle, and receiving support during recovery. The most successful programs incorporate elements that enable the individual to enrich their bodies, minds, and souls.

The function of the addiction treatment provider

The most effective and powerful way to break the vicious addiction cycle is to get help from a professional addiction treatment provider. Addiction rehab is a process that enables the addicted individual to overcome their physiological and psychological dependence on alcohol or drugs. Most rehab programs are comprised of three stages – detoxification, group and individual counseling / therapies, and aftercare or a support network. These are the primary elements of any addiction rehab program at a variety of drug treatment and recovery facilities.

Detoxification

Detox is the first stage of the addiction treatment and recovery process. It is also the most unpleasant stage because of the withdrawal symptoms that most individuals experience. People with chronic addictions have higher and intense withdrawal symptoms while those with mild addictions are able to have a significantly less. These include:

  • anxiety and depression
  • blackouts and seizures
  • chills and sweating
  • dizziness and fainting
  • erratic mood swings
  • hallucinations
  • irritability
  • nausea and vomiting

The detoxification process can last up to two weeks while the withdrawal symptoms will typically peak within three to four days of starting detox. The usual time period for the detoxification is considered to be 2 to 8 days.

Counseling and therapy

Once the detox stage is completed, the individual enters the beginning of the recovery process. Counseling and therapy is at the core of this stage. The individual must attend both group and individual sessions that provide them with educational materials regarding addiction. They learn how to avoid the triggers that cause their addictive behavior and relapse-prevention techniques so that when they return home to their communities they remain substance-free for life.

Aftercare and support

The addiction treatment provider usually has access to a support network as part of the aftercare process. The recovering addict learns how to cope with the challenges of recovery and returning to society such as avoiding temptation, dealing with the distractions and stresses of everyday life, and dealing with society’s lack of understanding about addiction.
