Mike Lewis Attorneys Expresses Disappointment over Delay in Rear Visibility Legislation

In light of the most recent delay of a law that would require a rear visibility standard to be set to help prevent child backover deaths, Mike Lewis Attorneys is supporting Kids and Cars fight against any further delay in this important legislation.  Last year, Mike Lewis Attorneys formed an alliance with Kids and Cars in an effort to ensure the safety of all children. A backover accident happens when a driver backs out of a parking spot, whether it is in a driveway or in a parking lot, and runs over an individual behind their car.  Most often, backover accidents involve small children.  With the advent of taller Sports Utility Vehicles, North Carolina backover accidents are becoming a serious issue.

Low visibility prohibits drivers from seeing what is directly behind their vehicle.  The Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act required that a rear visibility rule be set by Feb. 28, 2011; however, the law has been delayed for a third time.

The new law would mandate that every new car and truck built after September 2014 would be required to include a rear-view camera system.  According to estimates from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these changes would save an estimated 95 to 112 lives annually and prevent over 7,000 injuries.

Mike Lewis Attorneys is disappointed that legislation has been delayed again in creating legal standards for rear visibility.  The personal injury law firm stands behind Janette Fennel, founder and president of Kids and Cars, and her team who are fighting against any further delay in important legislation by the Department of Transportation which will require the implementation of a rear visibility standard.  For more information on backover accidents, visit the law firm’s website at www.MikeLewisAttorneys.com and complete the free case evaluation form for immediate assistance from a car accident lawyer.
