Even though Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook finalized their divorce over four years ago, the couple is still locked in a custody battle and has resorted to mudslinging. Divorce attorneys are all too familiar with acrimonious divorce battles.
Cook appeared on Nightline and accused his ex of throwing her “family under the bus” to generate publicity for her return to Broadway.
The current fight started last November when Brinkley filed a motion seeking fines for Cook’s “inflammatory communications,” which included bullying her through emails. Brinkley also alleges that Cook owes her $32,000 in back support to pay for school and summer camps for their children.
Cook did not take that lying down and filed a counter motion accusing Brinkley of being a “narcissistic ego-maniac.” He told Nightline, “Brinkley initiated the current court action and timed it to generate publicity for herself to promote ‘Chicago.’” Brinkley is playing Roxie Hart in the musical.
Cook also responded to the accusations that he did not pay child support. He told ABC News’ Elizabeth Vargas, “She filed a claim that I wasn’t paying child support when she took off to do Broadway last year, from March to July, but she put the children in my full time care.”
When the couple and their divorce lawyers began proceedings in 2006, Brinkley fought to keep their divorce open to the public. The bitterness runs deep between former couple, which is common among many couples, and cannot always be avoided even when divorce attorneys have had their divorces finalized.
