Willard Christopher “Will” Smith, Jr. is an actor, film producer, and rapper. He’s experienced enormous success in film, television, as well as in the music industry. In the late 80’s, Will was a “somewhat” well-know rapper by the name of “The Fresh Prince.” In the 90’s, he became quite popular via the television series “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
In the mid-90’s, Will began acting on the “big screen” and went on to star in numerous blockbuster hits. Will is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the U.S. box office (four of the films took in over $500 million in the global box office).
Will has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and has won several Grammy Awards.
Newsweek once called Will Smith, “the most powerful actor on the planet”, which we totally agree with. Will has also been known to be quite the philosopher with the releases of his “Will’s Wisdom” videos that he releases. The messages that he sends are extremely positive and motivational. His drive for success is what has separated him from everyone else. He is the true definition of greatness.
Here are 7 Amazing Lessons that we can learn from Will Smith:
1. Be Unrealistic
“What’s the point in being realistic?…Edison wasn’t realistic…”
Nothing great has ever been achieved by a realist. If realists ran the world, we’d be living in dark caves without any mode of transportation or communication, remaining trapped in the possibilities of the “now”.
What’s the lesson? Be unrealistic; set big, audacious goals that even intimidate you. Stretch yourself to your limits, you are capable of much more than you give yourself credit for. Having crazy and unrealistic dreams and goals is what will take you to the next level. If everyone just did what was realistic there would be no room for innovation, and growth. Being unrealistic is what has taking our species to the next level.
2. Be Single-Minded
“Having a plan B only distracts you from Plan A.”
Focus on your goal to the exclusion of everything else! Broken focus is the number one reason people fail. If your focus is steady and you give your total effort toward your greatest strengths, you will experience success. If you’re depending on plan B to be your back up plan that means you’re perfectly content with your plan A failing. Your plan A should never fail as it is your goal to make sure it succeeds.
Single-mindedness is critical!
3. Strive to be Great
“I strive to be like the greatest people who have ever lived.”
Greatness has never been achieved by people who were striving to be average. To be great you must strive for greatness! You must strive to help a great number of people! Greatness comes from determination, focus and amabition. Greatness doesn’t come easy, there are no shortcuts. Take on the hard work and achieve what others can only dream of.
“In my mind, I’ve always been an ‘A-list’ Hollywood superstar. Y’all just didn’t know yet.”
If you can’t see it, you can’t have it. You must see it in your mind before it will ever become a reality. You must be convinced of your success. You must live in the new home, drive the new car, and see your amazing spouse in your imagination before it will ever become a reality. The law of attraction says what you envision is what you will soon attract to yourself if you actually follow your dreams. There is no room for pessimism!
5. Have Faith
“If it was something that I really committed myself to, I don’t think there’s anything that could stop me from becoming President of the United States.”
You must believe in your ability before anyone else will. You couldn’t successfully run for president if you believed that you didn’t deserve to be president. You must have faith in your ability to succeed. You must be the first and biggesr member of your fan club. Believing is a key component because it brings about a great deal of optimism that will pave your road to success.
“Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects.”
Most people overestimate other people’s abilities and underestimate their own. Don’t place others on a pedestal while you view yourself as insignificant. You must always ask yourself, “Why not me, why not now?”
Is anyone any better than you, or any more deserving? Sure, we all have our areas of ignorance, but we also have our areas of genius–areas of limitless creativity.
7. Press Forward
“Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you and treat you bad. Let God deal with the things they do, because hate in your heart will consume you too.”
Always be willing to forgive and move on. Understand that oftentimes people who criticize you are the ones who love you the most. Don’t let anyone ever put you down because it’s not their position too.
Press forward whenever you’re confronted with negativity, never let hate enter your thoughts.
Remember to be “unrealistic”, within reason, and single-minded, all while striving to be great. See what you want in your mind first, have faith, ask why not you, and then press forward!
Elite.
