Zac Sunderland, 17-Year-Old from Southern California, Becomes Youngest Person to Sail Around the World Solo
Zac Sunderland became the youngest person to ever sail around the world alone after he docked his 36-foot Intrepid boat in Marina del Rey Thursday afternoon, completing a 28,000 mile trip that began last year.
Sunderland, 17, set sail on June 14, 2008 from the same spot he docked on Thursday and on his journey he reportedly crossed paths with pirates and encountered severe storms all while documenting the historic trip.
While Sunderland currently holds the record for youngest person to sail around the world his title might already be in jeopardy as a 16-year-old Brit, Mike Perham, is currently on his own solo journey.
