2009 British Open Leaderboard Day 1: Miguel Jimenez Sits 6-Under with Tom Watson, Ben Curtis and Kenichi Kuboya

Day One at the British Open is in the books and Turnberry gave way to some incredible rounds on Thursday as five-time champion Tom Watson fired an astounding 5-under 65 while 37-year-old Kenichi Kuboya, appearing in just his second British Open, matched that performance with an impressive 5-under on the back nine.

 

Ben Curtis put together a 65 on Thursday as well to share a spot in second with Watson and Kuboya, with all three trailing leader Miguel Jimenez by one stroke. Jimenez worked his way through Day One without a bogey and closed his round strong with a pair of birdies.

 

It was a tough day for Tiger Woods as the world’s number one never looked comfortable and finished the day with a 1-over 71.
