North Carolina firefighter injured after being hit by a car

A firefighter was injured Monday morning after he was hit by a driver while monitoring traffic at a previous accident scene.

The King Fire Department said that a car drove into an accident scene around 5 a.m. this morning, despite the emergency cones and patrol car lights. The driver sideswiped a fire truck and then hit a volunteer firefighter, according to WFMY New Channel 2.

The firefighter, Lt. Les Collins, was on the scene to monitor traffic in area surrounding the accident scene. He was carried closed to 100 feet from where he was struck. Collins was taken to Wake Forest Hospital where he is in stable condition.

The driver, William Blythe, 59, stayed on the scene and told police he saw the emergency lights and thought the police had just pulled someone over. Once he realized he drove into an accident scene it was too late. When Blythe struck Collins he was traveling at 30 mph. Blyth is charged with careless and reckless driving.

Drivers that cause an accident never truly intend to cause injury to others, but it happens often. The victims due to no fault of their own will be faced with high medical bills and have to hire an accident attorney to recover their medical care costs.

Accident lawyers will work very hard to make sure that the people they represent get just compensation for the suffering they endure. An injury victim should hire an accident attorney as soon as physically possible to begin building a strong case that will result in a favorable outcome.
