A Delta passenger plane sustained significant damage early Tuesday morning after it rolled off a runway and slid down a steep embankment at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. No passengers were on the plane at the time of the accident and no one was injured.
Delta spokesman Eric Torbenson said maintenance workers were servicing the Boeing 737 around 5 a.m. when it suddenly began to move down a taxiway. He said the “a problem with the plane’s braking system” was discovered by two workers on board. The plane eventually stopped part way down the embankment and was resting at a sharp angle.
The aircraft will be taken to a maintenance facility where it will be fully examined.
