Starbucks to Try its Hand at Serving Alcohol, to Reopen Seattle Location with New Name and Menu

Starbucks workers in Seattle may find their tips increasing after the company announced on Thursday it plans to reopen one of its locations under a new name and menu, including alcoholic beverages.

Known for its gourmet coffee, the ubiquitous coffee chain has said it will scrap its name from the location in favor of something that reflects the neighborhood in which it is situated, 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea, with plans to open the store next week.

Starbucks has struggled to maintain sales growth over the past several months and the decision to open the new store was based largely on trying to attract new customers during a difficult economy. In addition to serving coffee and tea the store will be selling wine and beer.

In addition to the 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea store Starbucks has said they plan to open another two stores in the Seattle area and if they are successful they could replicate the idea in other cities.
