Yao Ming Opts for Surgery to Repair Broken Foot, Likely to Miss 2009-10 NBA Season

The Houston Rockets will likely be facing a 2009-10 NBA season without their All-Star center Yao Ming after the 28-year-old said he was opting to have surgery to repair his fractured left foot.

Yao will now undergo a bone graft to heal the existing fracture and then have his arch surgically lowered so as to reduce the stress on his foot. The 7-6 center has broken his left foot twice and there are concerns that he might not be able to return to the court.

The surgery is scheduled for next week and according to Yao, “the path I have chosen is the best one. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me before I can be back on the court, and I am committed to do whatever I can to make my recovery 100 percent successful. I have full confidence I'll play again.”
