Jermaine Jones’ American Idol journey came to a sudden end this week after producers discovered he has a criminal record that includes multiple outstanding warrants. In a pre-taped segment that aired last night, executive producers Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe confronted Jones about not disclosing his record, which includes arrests for public nuisance, obstruction of justice, providing false information to police and hindering apprehension.
"You were incumbent to tell us the truth about all of this, and it appears that you just haven't on any level," Warick said.
“I was nervous ... I didn't want to get penalized for anything that happened in the past,” Jones explained.
“We are not allowed to have anyone who has an outstanding warrant on our program, and you’ve got four of them,” Lythegoe said. “We have to let you go.”
Jones accepted his disqualification gracefully. “Thank you so much for the opportunity and everything,” he said.
