Boulder police to participate in DUI crackdown over the weekend

Boulder County, CO- St. Patrick’s Day is Saturday and the annual celebration of Irish heritage often involves lots of drinking. In an effort to keep the roads clear of drunken drivers, police in Boulder County will be among the 114 agencies statewide that will participate in DUI crackdowns over the weekend.

Police agencies all over the country ramp up their efforts to catch intoxicated drivers by increase the number of patrol officers and DUI checkpoints. Police agencies from Longmont, Lafayette, Frederick, Erie, Broomfield, and Boulder along with Colorado state troopers will have extra patrols on the road.

The “Heat is On” crackdown campaign will begin 5 p.m. Friday evening and go through 3 a.m. Monday morning.

Last year, officers arrested 704 people for intoxicated driving over the same period and two people were killed in alcohol-related accidents.
