St. George, UT- A driver’s neck was broken Tuesday night when he was struck by an intoxicated driver at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Westridge Drive.
Police have charged a driver with intoxicated driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
The accident happened at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday night when a man driving a Yukon was driving through the intersection. Witnesses told police that a Monte Carlo traveling at a high rate of speed ran through the red light, slamming into the signal pole then into the Yukon, according the Salt Lake Tribune.
An EMT, who happened to be on the scene and also witnessed the accident, told police that she say the driver of the Monte Carlos emerge from his vehicle and flee the scene on foot.
The driver of the Yukon was ejected from his vehicle and sustained numerous fractures to his neck. He was taken to a local hospital but was later airlifted to Salt Lake.
When the police arrived on the scene they apprehended the intoxicated driver in the parking lot of a Home Depot.
