Tour de France Stage 14 Results: Serguei Ivanov Captures Stage, Yellow Jersey Remains on Back of Rinaldo Nocentini

The Tour de France leaderboard had a bit of a shakeup following Stage 14 of the 26-stage event after Russia’s Serguei Ivanov captured Saturday’s 124-mile trek with American George Hincapie crossing the line shortly after.

With the impressive finish Hincapie vaulted into second place, trailing only Italy’s Rinaldo Nocentini who retained the yellow jersey as the Tour de France overall leader. Entering Stage 14 Nocentini led Astana teammates Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong by 6 and 8 seconds respectively.

Now that lead has shrunk to 5 seconds and it is Hincapie on his heels with Contador and Armstrong slipping a spot on the leaderboard.

Stage 14 was marked by tragedy as well as a spectator was struck and killed by a police motorcycle in the town of Wittelsheim. Two other spectators were injured in the accident as the motorcycle was hurled into a crowd after striking a woman as she attempted to cross a road while watching the riders.
