French Security Advisers Taken Hostage in Somalia to be Tried Under Sharia Law

The two French security advisers kidnapped by Islamist militants while in Somalia are due to be tried under Sharia law. The men were seized from their Mogadishu hotel by gunmen on Tuesday who later turned them over to al-Shabab insurgents.

According to an official from al-Shabab the two men were facing charges of spying and conspiracy against Islam. The official did not say when the trial would begin.

Both men had been in Somalia to help train government troops as they continue to try and halt the advance of Islamist insurgents in Mogadishu.
