U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has begun her five-day visit to India in efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Clinton began he visit in Mumbai where she attended a private ceremony to honor the victims last November’s deadly terrorist attacks that killed more than 170 people. The ceremony was held at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, one of the sites that was targeted by the terrorists.
While Clinton is in India to solidify political and economic relations she will also spend time trying to bridge the gap between India and Pakistan. That gap grew following the November attacks as India pointed to the terrorists’ Pakistani ties.
India has called on Pakistan to punish those responsible for plotting the attacks but that has been a slow process that has increased tension between the neighboring countries.
