Jermaine Jones Speaks Out On American Idol Departure

Jermaine Jones says he is doing fine after being kicked off American Idol because of his criminal record, which includes warrants for giving a false name, public nuisance and driving with a suspended license. Speaking to People magazine Jones says he is “doing very, very well” and is concentrating on his music career.

“I've been getting myself together, working on some new music and looking forward to recording soon ... I feel amazing. I have amazing fans and an amazing team,” he tells People.

Jones was disqualified by executive producers Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe this week after they discovered he had four outstanding arrest warrants. In a pre-taped segment that aired Wednesday, Warwick and Lythgoe confronted the 25-year-old about not disclosing his record. Jones says he walked into the meeting not knowing what was about to happen.

“I did not know any of it. I was actually confused,” he says. “I didn't know what was going on. And I walked in and there were all these lights and cameras.”

Jones insists he did admit to being arrested on American Idol forms. “They did have a question [in which you had to admit] that you were arrested, and that I did do. And they did an extensive background check,” he tells People.

For now Jones plans to concentrate on recording his album. “I'm in the studio getting my album out, getting my tour together. I don't want to just sit back. I'm excited about my career. I eat it, I breathe it, I sleep it,” he adds. “Hopefully, I can work with some great people in producing my album and just get it going.”
