Russell Brand Arrested In New Orleans For Criminal Damage

Russell Brand turned himself in to the New Orleans Sheriff’s Department on Thursday to be booked on two misdemeanor counts of simple criminal damage. A warrant for his arrest was issued Wednesday after he was accused of throwing a photographer’s iPhone through a window. New Orleans police spokesman Garry Flot confirmed to Reuters Brand was released from custody after posting $5,000 bail.

In a police report filed Wednesday, photographer Timothy Jackson claims he was taking pictures of Brand with his phone when the Arthur star suddenly “flipped out” and snatched the phone. Brand threw the phone and it busted the window of a downtown law firm. Jackson cited “criminal damages” in the report.

Brand, 36, contacted the firm and offered to pay for the damage. It is unclear if he contacted Jackson about the iPhone. Brand, who is in New Orleans for film a movie, Tweeted about the incident. "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory,” he wrote.

A rep for Brand has not commented. The Get Him To The Greek star most recently made headlines for his divorce from wife Katy Perry. The pair reached a settlement out of court last month.
