The awkward situation, we all unfortunately experience them at some point and not one of us is safe from these dreaded experiences. We are all human, so of course sometimes we won’t always feel comfortable with our surroundings at a given moment. The nature of modern society forces us to navigate unfamiliar social territory with relatively unknown individuals on a frequent basis.
Sometimes the issue is that we just don’t know how to verbally convey what we’re thinking. What separates the strong from the weak? One major thing is how well an individual can handle an awkward situation.
Attack it head-on
The most important element in diffusing awkward situations is to confidently steer the conversation yourself rather than passively engaging in it by remaining in the backdrop. Instead of walking away from the conversation knowing you or somebody else said the wrong thing, you should address this contentious issue at the source as soon as the conversation strays from polite banter and enters the realm of the just plain thorny.
