Bosnian Serb Military Commanders Found Guilty of Burning Alive Civilians During Civil War

Judges at The Hague have sentenced Milan Lukic to life in prison and his cousin, Sredoje Lukic, to 30 years in prison after finding the former Bosnian Serb military commanders guilty of carrying out crimes against humanity during the Bosnian civil war between 1992 and 1994.

The two men, who had belonged to a paramilitary group known as the White Eagles, had been accused of targeting Bosnian Muslims in their attacks and were found guilty of locking up about 140 women, children and elderly men in two houses before setting them on fire.

Both Milan and Sredoje Lukic denied the charges during their May trial but judges pointed to the wealth of evidence when handing down the sentence on Monday.
