Steve Nash has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $22 million extension offered by the Phoenix Suns, two weeks after the club offered the two-time NBA MVP a $20 million deal for the same number of years.
Nash is already under contract for $13.1 million for next season and the extension now allows the Suns to rest easy in securing what was considered their priority over the offseason. There had been some fears that Nash would play out his contract and enter the free-agent class of 2010 but the point guard approached negotiations with a desire to remain in Phoenix.
With the extension Nash will be in a Phoenix uniform until he is 38-years-old yet the club remains confident in his ability and durability as he has averaged 77 games over the last five seasons and last year he was third in the league with 9.7 assists per game.
