The last Saturday in June is officially recognized as National Cornhole Day thanks to the efforts of Rocky Conteduca, the ACO and an Official Proclamation from the Mayor of the City of Carrollton, Kentucky.
This past Spring Rocky Conteduca, from Las Vegas, Nevada, thought it was time to have a National Cornhole Day. He suggested his idea to the American Cornhole Organization, the governing body of the sport of cornhole, and from there the idea took off.
The game of cornhole was catching on nationally so why not recognize this grass roots effort by setting aside one day a year to recognize the fun of cornhole with friends and family in backyards, campgrounds, tailgate parties, and the like.
Point Park, Carrollton, Kentucky, where the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers meet, was to be the location of this historic proclamation. The ACO had scheduled its annual HoleHeadz Fest at Point Park for the last weekend in June. It only made sense to include recognition of National Cornhole Day as part of those weekend festivities.
On June 27, 2009, 11:30 AM, at Point Park, Carrollton, Kentucky, Dwight Louden, Mayor of Carrollton, Kentucky, stepped to the microphone and read the Official Proclamation proclaiming from that day forward the last Saturday in June would be known as National Cornhole Day in the City of Carrollton, Kentucky.
