South Dakota DUI arrests increased St. Patrick’s Day over last year

Sioux City, SD- South Dakota police compiled data regarding DUI arrests over St. Patrick’s Day and found that found they made more arrests this year than last.

In a joint effort between Sioux Falls police, the Minnehaha Sherriff’s Department and South Dakota Highway Patrol, the streets were flooded with patrols looking to catch DUI drivers. The additional patrols and extra holiday traffic yielded two to four times the DUI arrests that occur on a typical Saturday night.

In addition to the increased patrols, police were able to catch driver who had one to many thanks to calls from concerned citizens. Police noted that they received 100 calls about possible intoxicated drivers.
