Authorities in southern Mexico confirmed Wednesday damages and injuries have been confirmed in Tuesday’s powerful earthquake. Officials are still assessing damage in Mexico City and the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca, but so far it has been determined an estimated 800 homes were damaged and at least 11 people sustained injuries. No deaths have been reported.
While no injuries have been reported in Guerrero, where the epicenter of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake was located, at least 500 homes were damaged. Authorities in Oaxaca reported hundreds of homes there had been damaged and at least 9 residents suffered injuries. Minor damage has also been reported in Mexico City. Authorities say two people were injured when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in the city.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the tremor struck at a depth of 12.4 miles about 15 miles east of Ometepec, Guerrero. At least 10 aftershocks followed.
