Steve Irwin joins Tom Cruise, George Clooney and the Catholic Church as a target of South Park insanity.

The creators of South Park may have gone to far this time. While Trey Parker and Matt Stone have survived controversy before, the line might have been crossed in their most recent episode depicting the sleepy little town of South Park.

Having gained a reputation for mocking anything and everything under the sun, the duo set their sites on Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter. In the episode Satan is entertaining some guests at a Halloween party. Among those attending are Hitler and Princess Diana. Before to long a guest complains about the costume of one character which depicts Steve Irwin, When Satan approaches the guest it turns out to actually be Irwin and not a guest in costume. The Crocodile Hunter is dressed in his traditional khakis with a stingray barb piercing his chest.

A member a TV watchdog group, John Beyer, said “This is such bad taste and the makers of South Park should review their decision to show it. Steve's family are still grieving.”

Irwin was killed in September while snorkeling around the Great Barrier Reef when a stingray’s barb pierced his chest.

South Park regularly lampoons stars, religion and institutions in the cartoon but have truly offended many with their latest episode. Beyer went on to say “To lampoon somebody's death like that is unacceptable and so soon after the event is grossly insensitive.”

In the past Trey Parker and Matt Stone have taken shots at the Catholic Church, Scientology, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Kathy Lee Gifford, John Travolta and just about anything and anybody that has been in the public eye.
