Philadelphia lost its second home game this year and Donovan McNabb was sacked four times in the Eagles 13-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars’ defense held McNabb to 161 passing yards and the Eagles’ running game to 85 yards in a game in which Philadelphia fans openly vocalized their disappointment. Fred Taylor rushed for 103 yards to help Jacksonville improve to 4-3. The loss dropped Philadelphia to 4-4 on the year.
The Baltimore Ravens went into New Orleans and beat up the Saints 35-22 despite 383 passing yards from Drew Brees. While Brees threw three touchdowns on the day he was also picked off three times and the Saints suffered their first home loss of the year and fell to 5-2 on the year. Jamal Lewis ran for 109 yards and helped the Ravens improve to 5-2.
After throwing four touchdown passes against the Steelers last week, Michael Vick threw another three this week and the Atlanta Falcons went into Cincinnati and knocked off the Bengals 29-27. Vick added 291 yards through the air and rushed for 55 yards to help Atlanta improve to 5-2 on the year while the loss set the Bengals back to 4-3.
Vince Young squared off against David Carr and the Tennessee Titans came out ahead 28-22 against the Houston Texans. Starting for the Titans, Young threw for 87 yards and a touchdown and ran for 44 yards and a touchdown in the win. Wali Lundy rushed for 116 yards in the Texans loss.
The New York Giants suffocated Tampa Bay in the Meadowlands holding the Buccaneers to just three points. Eli Manning threw for a touchdown and Brandon Jacobs ran for another as the Giants won 17-3 and improved to 5-2 on the year while the Bucs slipped to 2-5 and remain winless on the road.
Larry Johnson had a huge day for Kansas City rushing for 155 yards as the Chiefs held on for a 35-28 victory over visiting Seattle. Damon Huard threw for 312 yards and a touchdown and Johnson added 26 yards receiving and four touchdowns as the Chiefs improved to 4-3. Seneca Wallace got the start for injured Matt Hasselbeck and threw three touchdowns for the Seahawks but also threw two interceptions as Seattle dropped to 4-3 on the year.
Brett Favre threw for 180 yards and Ahman Green ran for 106 yards as the Green Bay Packers handled Arizona 31-14. The Packers defense sacked Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart four times and picked him off once in the rout. After losing four of their first five, the Packers have now won two in a row and improved to 3-4 on the year. Arizona continues to struggle, falling to 1-7.
The Chicago Bears racked up 41 points in the first half and cruised to a 41-10 victory over San Francisco at Soldier Field. Rex Grossman threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns while Thomas Jones rushed for 111 yards and a TD as the Bears improved to 7-0 on the year. The 49ers dropped to 2-5 despite Frank Gore’s 111 yards on twelve carries.
Peyton Manning threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns and Adam Vinatieri added four field goals, including the game winner with two seconds remaining as the Indianapolis Colts remained perfect on the year with a 34-31 win over host Denver. Mike Bell rushed 136 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos loss. The Colts moved to 7-0 while the Broncos fell to 5-2.
The San Diego Chargers moved to 5-2 after beating the St. Louis Rams 38-24. LaDanian Tomlinson rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns while Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 206 yards and a touchdown. Marc Bulger had 327 passing yards in the Rams loss which dropped them to 4-3 on the year.
The Cleveland Browns held off visiting New York and improved to 2-5 with a 20-13 victory. The Jets fell to 4-4 on the year. Reuben Droughns rushed for 125 yards for the Browns and Charlie Frye added 141 yards in the air for the Browns.
The Oakland Raiders shocked the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-13 and moved to 2-5 on the year. The Steelers are yet to win a game on the road and fell to 2-5. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 301 yards but the Steels QB was picked off four times and sacked five times in the loss.
