ASPS addresses liposuction as a cure for cellulite

Cellulite is a major concern for most women and they look for ways to eliminate the uneven and dimpled skin. The beauty market is filled with a variety of creams claiming that they can reduce the appearance of cellulite. But the American Society of Plastic Surgeons maintains the position that, although there is no cure for cellulite, liposuction is a popular cosmetic procedure that can help improve the appearance of the skin.

Cellulite is dimpled skin caused by excess fat underneath the lawyers of the skin. The connective adipose tissue causes the skin to look similar to an orange peel. This condition mostly affects women, and though it has no adverse effects to a woman’s health, it can be unsightly and make women feel insecure.

Cellulite generally appears in the regions of the buttocks, stomach and thighs. Women, who hope to reduce the appearance of cellulite, can have targeted liposuction to remove fat from the troubling areas.  The ASPS suggests that liposuction techniques which employ lasers, ultrasound and heat to dissolve the fat are most suited for reducing or eliminating cellulite. These techniques allow for more tightening of the skin, giving it a smoother appearance.

With the summer approaching, women want to feel better about their bodies. If they have cellulite and want to get rid of it, they are encouraged to have a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss their liposuction options for treating cellulite.
