St. Louis knocks off Detroit again, crowned most dangerous U.S. city to live in.

It hasn’t even been a week since the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers four games to one to capture their 10th World Series title yet St. Louis beat Detroit in another highly contested battle. That being the annual most dangerous U.S. city to live in award.

While The Cardinals were hailed as heroes and thrown a giant parade through the city for their unlikely title there is little doubt Mayor Francis Slay will be organizing a parade for the city’s most recent accomplishment.

With violent crime jumping 20 percent in the passed year and a murder rate that increased by 16 percent in 2005 there was little doubt that St Louis would knock off Camden New Jersey for the dubious honor.

Morgan Quitno Press, a private research and publishing company, compiled the data for the rankings.

Detroit was ranked as the second most dangerous U.S. city and neighboring Michigan city, Flint, came in at third.

The data compiled for the rankings only takes into account crime within city limits. St. Louis statistics were based on the 330,000 residents inside those limits. The city has roughly 1 million residents in suburbs that surround the St. Louis area.
