The Boston Red Sox have added another bat to their struggling line-up, acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Adam LaRoche in a deal that sent a pair of minor league prospects to the National League club.
While the Red Sox had been rumoured to be in the Roy Halladay chase it became apparent they would need another bat after finding runs hard to come by since the All-Star break. LaRoche was hitting .247 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs at the time of the trade and will likely alternate between first base and DH.
In exchange for LaRoche the Pirates will receive Double-A shortstop Argenis Diaz and Class A right hander Hunter Strickland.
