New York, NY- Model and star of the Broadway Show “Chicago,” Christie Brinkley went on The Today Show Tuesday to discuss her protracted divorce with host Matt Lauer. Brinkley became very emotional while defending herself, saying, “I just want peace.”
Although Brinkley and her estranged husband Peter Cook hired divorce attorneys to end their marriage over 4 years ago, their divorce has been very contentious rife with name calling and ongoing legal battles.
Brinkley discussed how difficult the divorce has been and opined that she believed there should be legislation for women who are divorcing difficult men and says her ex has been diagnosed as narcissistic. Brinkley told Lauer, “I’ve never taken part in the name calling. The only thing I’ve ever said… at the end of the (second) trial I said as a public service, ‘Google’ “divorcing a narcissist’” I’ve gotten hundreds of letters from women that are going through this. It’s not easy.”
In the latest legal battle, their divorce lawyers are grappling with each side accusing the other of violating their divorce agreement. Brinkley says Cook is paying the minimal amount of child support, $600 a month, and also accuses him of bullying her through emails despite the confidentiality agreement they both signed and a court that prohibits Cook from contacting Brinkley.
Cook has alleged that Brinkley is a narcissist and filed the most recent lawsuit in order to generate publicity for “Chicago.” He also accuses her of throwing their children under the bus.
Even with the assistance of divorce attorneys, many couples wage legal battles years after their marriages are over.
