One child dead and 15 others injured after school bus and semi-truck collide in Florida

Port St. Lucie, FL- A tragic accident involving a semi- truck and a school bus left one 9 year-old boy dead and caused injury to 14 elementary students along with their bus driver.

The accident occurred as the bus was carrying students home for the day Monday afternoon, around 4 p.m. The bus was driving west in the left lane of Okeechobee Rd with 30 students onboard. According to police the bus driver made a left turn in front of the semi-truck.

The driver of the truck, Charles Cooper, 24, tried to take evasive maneuvers and turned his wheel to the right, which caused the truck to overturn. Cooper was not injured.
