NHL Scores from Monday Night
The Washington Capitals (4-3-4) got two goals and an assist from Richard Zednik, two more from Dainius Zubrus and Alexander Ovechkin added a pair of assists in their 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames (3-6-1). Olaf Kolzig stopped 37 shots for the Capitals.
Atlanta faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and the results were nothing new. Despite a successful road trip that earned the Thrashers points in Florida, Carolina, Philadelphia and Buffalo, Atlanta ran out of steam and lost to the Leafs for the eighth straight time, 4-2. Darcy Tucker netted two goals for Toronto (6-4-3) while Ilya Kovalchuk added his ninth goal of the year for Atlanta (8-2-3).
Anaheim gave up a two goal against the St. Louis Blues (3-4-3) in the third period but wound up winning 6-5 in a shootout. Both Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf scored for the Anaheim Ducks (9-0-3) in the shootout.
The Philadelphia Flyers (3-7-1) got two goals from Peter Forsberg and a shutout performance by goalie Robert Esche in their 3-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks (4-7-0).
The Los Angeles Kings (4-8-2) got two goals from Brent Sopel and beat the New York Rangers (5-6-0) 4-1. The Rangers lone goal came off the stick off Brendan Shanahan, his tenth of the year.
