Truck driver dies in Texas blaze after colliding with car

Travis County, TX- An early morning accident led the death of a truck driver after colliding with a BMW on Maha Loop Road.

The tragedy occurred early Wednesday morning, shortly after midnight, when the driver of a BMW ran a stop sign at the intersection of Maha Loop Road and the 130 frontage toll road heading westbound and collided with a tanker truck. The impact of the crash caused the truck to spin out of control and plunge into a ditch. The driver was able to return his rig to the service road, but the truck flipped over on its side and a fire erupted. The tanker was filled with fuel.

When emergency crews arrived the truck was completely engulfed in flames which were being fed by the fuel in the tanker. Emergency personnel were unable to reach the driver and had to allow the fire to burn down on its own.  They driver died as a result.

The driver of the BMW and a passenger were also injured, but their conditions are non-life threatening.
