Nearly 30 people, including several New Jersey mayors and
rabbis were arrested Thursday in a corruption probe. The U.S. attorney’s office
in Newark, New Jersey says the federal investigation involved a probe in to a “high
volume, international money-laundering conspiracy.”
Among those arrested are Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano
III, Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell, New Jersey Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt and
New Jersey Deputy mayor Leona Beldini. Several rabbis, who have not been
identified, were also arrested.
No other details on the case were available. A news
conference is scheduled for noon.
