In a recent science based study conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) it is cited that there are some fundamental areas and issues that must be looked at in order to achieve success in handling drug addiction. In NIDA’s release, “Principals of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research Based Guide”, an effective drug rehabilitation program is one that is catered to the needs of the individual being treated and specific to his/her situation and issues. This could be a wide range of things, from underlying psychological issues, to medical concerns and physical injuries, stresses in life and pressures in general, along with information and the addressing of the addiction itself. So, it’s really not a “one size fits all” approach that works, successfully, to effectively deal with addiction.
Although there is a vast number of treatment centers out there, only a small number of them are comprehensive enough to deal with the problem of addiction on an individual level. This is not reassuring, as most government resources encourage looking for a program that produces the desired results for not only abstinence from drugs, but for long lasting sobriety and full recovery from drugs and alcohol.
From there, the Suncoast program moves into handling the psychological aspects of addiction. Using life skills therapies, the client is assisted in locating their underlying issues and find the root cause issues of why they started using drugs/alcohol in the first place. Once these issues are found, clients are helped in gaining the life skills they will need to deal with these and move forward and also be able to handle them if/when they come up in the future. This is different for each individual and is another example of Suncoast really backing the methodology laid out by NIDA
Suncoast also offers a “re-entry” program for each of its clients. Any person that completes the program can apply to stay on and engage in an “internship program” with Suncoast. They receive training from the facility and help in lesser capacities and have the opportunity to give back, and share with others all the abilities they have gained or regained.
Suncoast is definitely a comprehensive treatment approach. And while most treatment centers utilize one component of treatment or have one approach, the Suncoast Rehabilitation Program embraces, and uses, all the different treatment components suggested by NIDA in the same facility. The results are evidenced based in Suncoast’s over 70% success rate and firm guarantee of service to take back in any graduate of the program should they need to come back for whatever reason.
