Bob Barker will beckon his final contestant next June ending 35-years as host of The Price is Right.
After half a century on TV the game show icon has decided to lay down his mike. “I'm just reaching the age where the constant effort to be there and do the show physically is a lot for me.” Barker went on to say “I might be able to do the show another year, but better (to leave) a year too soon than a year too late.”
The animal-rights activist who ends every show imploring viewers to spay or neuter their pets will be 83-years-old upon retirement. When that day comes he plans to “sit down for maybe a couple of weeks and find out what it feels like to be bored.”
Beginning his 50 years on television as the host of Truth or Consequences in 1956, Barker moved on to The Price is Right in 1972. From that day in September, Barker has had a hand in giving away millions of dollars worth of prizes to contestants.
