Saudi Diplomat Kidnapped By Gunmen Outside Yemen Home

A Saudi diplomat was kidnapped by a group of armed men Wednesday in southern Yemen, officials in Saudi Arabia confirmed. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said Abdullah al-Khalidi, a deputy consul at the embassy in Aden, was leaving his home in the district of Mansoora when the gunmen abducted him.

There has been no claim of responsibility for Khalidi’s abduction and the motive remains unclear. The situation is being monitored by Yemeni authorities. The Saudi Foreign Ministry warned the gunman that “they bear the full responsibility to protect him and release him promptly.” No other details have been released.

Earlier this month a Saudi diplomat in Bangladesh was killed outside his home by gunmen in a vehicle. Authorities say Khalaf bin Mohammed Salem al-Ali was shot in the left side of his chest about 30 years from his house in the Gulshan neighborhood of Dhaka. He died at a local hospital hours later.
