Illinois Law Firm Premieres Bankruptcy Blog

The Illinois bankruptcy law firm of Newland & Newland LLP has launched a blog called the “Bankruptcy Blog.” The blog contains information on filing for bankruptcy, navigating changes in bankruptcy legislation and avoiding “bankruptcy mills” or other schemes which aim to take advantage of people in vulnerable financial situations. The purpose of the blog is to promote an understanding of bankruptcy as it relates to the current mortgage crisis and to raise awareness about bankruptcy laws, abuses and statistics for the people of Illinois.

The number of bankruptcies in the United States has been steadily rising over the last several years, and Illinois is no exception. According to the American Bankruptcy Institute, in 2011 over 73,000 Illinois individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy and, if early reports are any indication, the state will see just as many bankruptcies in 2012. It is important, therefore, that Illinoisans understand the sometimes complex legal workings of bankruptcy and how to protect themselves in the event that they must file for bankruptcy themselves.

The Newland and Newland Illinois bankruptcy attorneys understand that now more than ever Illinoisans need to understand how bankruptcy works. However, in light of recent changes to federal bankruptcy laws which make filing for bankruptcy a considerably longer and more complicated process, most do not. By offering an easy to understand rundown of the changes made, as well as a summary of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy versus Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, the “Bankruptcy Blog” will hopefully serve as a comprehensive informational guide for Illinoisans to better understanding the ins and outs of bankruptcy filing.

One of the major issues facing Illinoisans filing for bankruptcy is “bankruptcy mills.” Bankruptcy mills are those firms advertised on daytime television which aggressively promise to provide bankruptcy assistance. It has been alleged that these firms employ paralegals and recent law schools graduates with the goal of processing as many bankruptcies as they can as quickly as possible and at a high cost. At the “Bankruptcy Blog,” visitors can learn more about how to avoid bankruptcy mills and how to identify legitimate bankruptcy lawyers who can help in filing for bankruptcy.
