Country music singer George Jones was hospitalized in Nashville yesterday for an upper respiratory infection. The 80-year-old’s condition was confirmed in a statement on his official website.
“Jones will stay overnight for observation and is scheduled to be released tomorrow,” said a statement posted Thursday.
E! News reports Jones’ doctors have determined he is not suffering from pneumonia. No other details were released.
Jones, who is known for his classic hits like He Stopped Loving Her Today and Finally Friday, will resume touring next month with a show in Minnesota on April 20. He has tour dates lined up until December 1.
Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. He was awarded as Grammy for Lifetime Achievement this year and is nominated for Vocal Event of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
