Bedford woman accuses police chief of sexual harassment

Lexington, NY- Lexington city officials are prepared to make a response about the sexual harassment allegations made against Police Chief Mark Corr.

A former employee of the police department, Susan Costa, 51, alleges that Corr sexually harassed her on numerous occasions. Costa said that she confronted Corr about the abuse in 2009, but that did nothing to stop the behavior and she was forced to quit her job.

According to Costa’s allegations, Corr would touch her shoulders and make sexual comments about her to her and other employees. Costa decided to confront Corr after he was promoted to chief and he denied harassing her, but said he respected her feelings. According to Costa, the harassment stopped for a while, but resumed again until she decided to resign in 2009, because she was so stressed.  

Costa has been unemployed since 2009 and decided to retain a sexual harassment attorney after she has had difficulty finding another job. She is waiting for the city to respond before she officially files a complaint with the state.

Costa says the harassment, “put me in emotional distress,” and she deserves to be compensated for that.

Sexual harassment is a serious issue in the workplace and oftentimes the victims must hire a sexual harassment lawyer just to have the behavior stopped. When a sexual harassment attorney can prove a person’s allegations, they will be eligible for compensation from their employer and the harasser.
