A Halloween party turned violent in San Francisco’s Castro district late last night. The Halloween party, an annual event that is now run by the city, has had a history of violence but never to this degree.
Conservative estimates have claimed at least seven individuals were shot, two with life-threatening injuries. Hospitals in the area have said they had several people that received treatment for gunshot wounds, but were uncertain if they were tied to the party.
The annual event has attracted over 500,000 revelers in the past with a mix of all walks of life. At one time it was a very popular event for the gay and lesbian community but in recent years an influx of gay bashers have disrupted the party,
Police spokesman Sgt. Neville Gittens said “We had the sheriff's department screening people for weapons and alcohol. Obviously you have a major event, a lot of different spots, I can't explain how this happened. Unfortunately it did happen, and we are investigating to find out who is the cause of the shooting.”
No arrests have been made yet but police have questioned several people.
